U17 AFCON: Four Takeaways From Nigeria's 1-0 Win Against Angola
Published: April 17, 2019
Nigeria's U-17 national team, the Golden Eaglets on Wednesday defeated Angola 1-0 to qualify for the semifinals of the 2019 CAF U-17 Nations Cup and more crucially a place at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Allnigeriasoccer.com's Izuchukwu Okosi takes a look at four takeaways from the game.
1. Olusegun, Ubani Must Be More Clinical
The duo of Olakunle Olusegun and Wisdom Ubani have proven to all and sundry what fantastic talents they have but their wastefulness in Wednesday's win was worrying.
Olusegun in particular had about four clear chances which he fluffed - he had his penalty goal to be thankful for which ultimately was enough for qualification.
2. Ubani Is An Attacking Threat
Top striker Wisdom Ubani did not score in Wednesday's slim win but his all round performance was satisfactory.
The lad's free kick techniques are frightening. His free kicks are sure to get the goals for Nigeria and the Golden Eaglets may be showcasing another gem the way the world witnessed in 2015, the emergence of Victor Osimhen.
3. Sunday Stephen's Reflexes
Sunday Stephen was not in action against Tanzania in that 5-4 win against Tanzania but he came and acquitted himself well, making some incredible saves with fantastic reflexes.
The custodian might just have cemented his place as first choice gloves man.
4. Ogaga Oduko's Struggles
The Nigeria defence improved but left back Ogaga Oduko was made to struggle facing the threat of tricky Angola playmaker Zito.
Oduko sometimes strayed and left acres of spaces in the area he vacated.
