Former Super Eagles Invitee Delighted To Get Off The Mark For Bordeaux
Former Sunderland starlet Josh Maja has spoken of his joy after opening his goalscoring account for Bordeaux although his strike could not prevent his team from losing 2-1 to Nimes at the Stade des Costières on Saturday.

With 13 minutes gone, Maja tapped the ball into the net after outpacing his markers, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead in the process.

The 20-year-old suffered a knee injury which led to his substitution in the 45th minute and is doubtful for Friday's home game against Olympique Lyonnais.

He played seven games and spent 164 minutes on the pitch in total before netting his maiden goal for Bordeaux.

Writing on Twitter on Sunday, Maja stated : ''Disappointing result last night, but glad to get off the mark ⚽️ thank you to the fans for their support! #bordeaux''.

Maja was one of the English-born youngsters invited to train with the Super Eagles in London ahead of a proposed friendly against Burkina Faso in March 2017 which was later cancelled.

He visited the Super Eagles training camp but did not train with the team due to club commitments.
