Will Belgian-Born Striker Cyriel Dessers Ever Get His Chance With Nigeria?
Published: April 23, 2019
Belgian-born and FC Utrecht forward Cyriel Dessers' international future remains in darkness despite revealing his desire to feature for Super Eagles two years ago.
The 24-year-old revealed to allnigeriasoccer.com in 2017 that it would be an honor featuring for the three-time African Champions in the future.
Despite his revelation and his fine form throughout the 2017-18 season, Dessers wasn't considered by Gernot Rohr who has stayed glue to Odion Ighalo and Kelechi Iheanacho since his first day as Super Eagles coach.
Things are currently not looking too good for Desser as regards to international football.
Should he decide to focus on breaking into Belgium's national team, he will need to battle with well-known strikers including Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United), Michy Batshuayi (Chelsea) and Divock Origi (Liverpool).
Nigeria seems to be the best option for the the centre-forward, but it remains unknown if he will ever get the chance to feature for Super Eagles.
Rohr's team consist of very young and deadly attack-minded players who are more than willing to do everything possible to win a place in the manager's long-term plan.
With Ighalo, Osimhen, Awoniyi and Nwakaeme's current form, Rohr isn't thinking towards Dessers' direction for any inspiration.

However, the young man will hope to warm his way into Rohr's heart after the AFCON tournament when some of the current players will be thinking of ending their international careers.
