Nigeria U17 Players Ratings : Top Marks For Ubani, Ikenna, Ishaya; Tijani Descent; 6.5/10 For GK Stephen; Olaniyan Struggles
Published: April 24, 2019The Golden Eaglets fell to a penalty defeat after a goalless affair versus Guinea to end their hopes of a third AFCON crown in their 2019 adventure in Dar es Salaam.
Allnigeriasoccer.com runs the rule on their performances on the day :
The Starters
Goalkeeper
Sunday Stephen: Denied Algasimme Bah and Sekou Bangoura in the first period and really looked lively. Quite how he failed to get his hands on one or two of the flurry of penalties will hurt. (6.5/10)
Defenders
Clement Ikenna: Did a good job on Bah and Aboubakar Conte as Guinea threw bodies forward and pummeled Nigeria's rear in the first half.
Decent enough not to give away fouls in promising positions too. Scored in the shootout. (8/10)
David Ishaya: Brilliant defending from Ishaya who took no prisoners in his duties against the physical Guineans.
Buried his kick in the shootout. (8/10)
Shedrack Tanko: Did his defensive duties superbly well even though he had little forays. Put away his kick in the penalty shootout. (7/10)
Ogaga Oduko: Went on a number of marauding runs from the rear and was a source of attacking outlet.
Set up Ubani with a really good cross in the first period but the chance went begging. Skied his effort in the penalty shootout. (8/10)
Midfielders
Fawaz Abdulalhi: Looked nervous in the opening moments as Guinea took the initiative to their opponents but recovered to post a satisfying display. Put in a couple of crucial interceptions in the box. Beat Camara in the shootout. (7.5/10)
Samson Tijani: Held sway at the middle of the park and usually beat his rival midfielders to the ball. Scored his kick in the penalties. (7/10)
Akinkunmi Amoo: The crocked lad more than held his own yet again for the short while and looked eager to get at Bangoura Mouhammed. Nicely slipped in Ubani a minute shy of 20 after a powerful run but the striker's effort was sailing.
Couldn't continue and came off for Olusegun just before the break. (6/10)
Olatomi Olaniyan: A hushed showing from Olaniyan who kept passes simple and looked a bit hesitant with advancing into the danger areas.
Saw the ball break to him in stoppage time just on the edge of the Guinea area, but screwed his effort wide. Scored his penalty kick. (5/10)
Attackers
Wisdom Ubani: Had some pops from range and looked very good with his positioning though he hardly troubled goalkeeper Camara Sekou in the opening stages.
Nearly scored a highlight reel in the second half after some eye-catching footwork but saw his effort miss by some inches. Got a booking and also buried his penalty. (8/10)
Ibraheem Jabaar: Fell for a lot of inhumane tackles from the Guinean defenders as they resorted to fouling the eagle-eyed winger.
Glanced a very good header wide from a cross. Scored from the spot. (7.5/10)
The Substitutes
Olakunle Olusegun: Had some good runs which failed to materialise and was a menace upfront. Scored his penalty kick. (7/10)
