Madrid CFF's Former Nigeria Captain Scores On Full League Debut In Spain
Published: January 20, 2020Former Nigeria captain Rita Chikwelu is the latest Super Falcon to move to the Spanish Primera División de la Liga de Fútbol Femenino and she rose to the task on her full debut.
The experienced playmaker got on the scoresheet as Madrid CFF thrashed Athletic Club 4-1 at the Estadio Municipal Nuevo Matapiñonera on Sunday afternoon.
Eight minutes into the contest, Chikwelu scored with a thumping header to double Madrid CFF's advantage following a corner taken by Estela Fernández.
The home team had put the game to bed after 20 minutes, with Váleria and Geyse Ferreira also finding the net, before Lucía García reduced the deficit on 34 minutes.
Chikwelu represented FC United (Finland), Umeå IK and Kristianstad (both Sweden) before transferring to Madrid CFF in the January transfer window.
Asisat Oshoala (Barcelona), Ohale Osinachi (CD Tacon), Chidinma Okeke (Madrid CFF) and Alice Ogebe (Real Betis), who were all part of the Super Falcons squad to the 2019 Women's World Cup play for Spanish top-flight clubs.
