Villarreal Super Kid Chukwueze Scores Messi And Maradona-Like Goal In Copa del Rey
Published: January 23, 2020For the first time in two months, Samuel Chukwueze was on target as Villarreal registered a 3-0 win against Girona in a Copa del Rey match staged at the Municipal de Montilivi on Wednesday night.
The winger's 72nd minute strike was reminiscent of the goal scored by Argentina legend Diego Maradona against England at the 1986 World Cup and Lionel Messi's brilliant finish against Getafe in the semifinal of the Copa del Rey in April 2007.
With the scoreboard reading 1-0, Chukwueze was brought on in the 55th minute to add bite to the attack of the Yellow Submarine.
It all started when the Super Eagles star received a pass from Santi Cazorla near the center circle, he ran past at least three Girona players and got inside the penalty area, beat a defender before slotting past goalkeeper Juan Carlos with his left foot.
Undoubtedly, Chukwueze's effort was the best goal scored in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday and the most eye-catching goal he has scored since he turned professional.
One of the most promising talents in Africa, the Diamond Academy product was nominated for the Golden Boy, Kopa Trophy and CAF Youth Player of the Year in 2019.
