Contract Talks Still Ongoing For Southampton Starlet Who Looks Up To Iwobi, Aina
Published: June 12, 2020Contract talks are still ongoing between English Premier League club Southampton and highly-rated Nigerian fullback Oludare Olufunwa, allnigeriasoccer.com understands.
Eighteen days from now, the defender would be classed as a free agent if he doesn't put pen to paper on a new deal as the current agreement between club and player runs out on June 30, 2020.
Olufunwa has been offered a fresh two-year contract to extend his stay but the St Mary's Stadium outfit have every reason to be concerned because nothing has been signed yet.
Identified as a player with potential, the 18-year-old has been invited to train with the first team several times.
A physical defender, he got scouted by Southampton a decade ago while playing for a local club and was offered a deal after trialing for about a week.
Born to a Nigerian father and an English mom, Olufunwa has admitted that he looks up to Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Ola Aina.
He went the distance in five of the last six games played by Southampton in the Premier League 2 and scored the game-winning goal vs Wolverhampton Wanderers.
