Ighalo Gets A New Rival As Man Utd Sign Striker With 341 Career Goals For Euro Clubs
Published: October 05, 2020Odion Ighalo has a new rival at Manchester United following the club's capture of prolific Uruguay international Edinson Cavani on transfer deadline day.
The official website of the Red Devils has informed that Cavani has signed a one-year deal with the option to extend for a further year.
The 33-year-old has registered 341 goals in total since moving to Europe from his native Uruguay in 2007, including 47 in European competitions.
Ighalo was in direct competition with England stars Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood and France international Anthony Martial for one of the striking positions and now faces a tough task on his hands in becoming a regular starter for United with the addition of Cavani.
The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer has made 22 appearances for United since joining on loan from Shanghai Shenhua in the January transfer window, comprising seven starts and fifteen appearances as a substitute.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bringing in Cavani also puts the long-term future of Ighalo in doubt, with his loan deal set to expire in the next three months.
