'He's Still A Very Important Part Of Squad' - Solskjaer On How Cavani's Arrival Will Impact Ighalo
Published: October 20, 2020Manchester United strengthened their attacking ranks with the signing of prolific Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani in the summer transfer window.
There are fears that the capture of the former Paris Saint-Germain star would see Odion Ighalo drop down the pecking order of strikers at Old Trafford.
The former Nigeria international has been struggling for game time in the Premier League this term, with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and even Daniel James preferred ahead of the Shanghai Shenhua loanee.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League meeting with PSG, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed that Ighalo is an important player in the squad despite Cavani's arrival.
The Norwegian football tactician was quoted as saying by United's official website : "I think, as a team and club, we always want to get players in.
"I think Edinson coming in will try and do that to the Premier League, and we’ll give him time to adapt to this team and to get his sharpness and fitness back.
"We’ve had some very good performances from Odion and he is still a very important part of this squad."
This season, Ighalo has earned the trust of Solskjaer for only domestic Cup matches after starting against Luton Town and Brighton & Hove in the League Cup.
