Liverpool Icon Likens Cavani's Arrival At Manchester United To Ighalo's Signing In January
Published: November 02, 2020Liverpool icon Graeme Souness has strongly criticized Manchester United over their transfer business in the last two windows.
Souness believes that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not have a say in the key recruitment decisions at the Red Devils.
United managed to get a loan deal over the line for Shanghai Shenhua striker Odion Ighalo just before the close of the January transfer window after they failed in their attempt to sign their former Academy player Joshua King.
And on transfer deadline day last month, Manchester United made another desperate signing in Edinson Cavani despite the fact that the Uruguay marksman had been a free agent since the end of the 2019-2020 campaign.
Writing in his column for The Times, Souness explained : "Then they signed a 33-year-old striker on deadline day that everybody knows has been available all year on a free transfer in Edinson Cavani.
"It was like a rerun of the late loan deal for Odion Ighalo last season".
Ighalo was a hit in his first five months at United and was rewarded with a contract extension at the end of June but has struggled for playing time in the Premier League and Champions League this season, putting his long-term future at the club in doubt.
