Balogun Scores Hat-trick, Azeez Opens PL2 Account, Akinola Assists As Arsenal Rout Brighton 5-0
Published: January 22, 2021Arsenal made it five wins on the bounce in the Premier League 2, thrashing Brighton & Hove 5-0 at Meadow Park on Friday night, with as many as seven youngsters of Nigerian parentage on parade for both teams.
Gunners U23 manager Steve Bould handed starts to goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, center back Joseph Olowu, right-back Ryan Alebiosu, central midfielders Miguel Azeez and Tim Akinola, and center forward Folarin Balogun, while Mazeed Ogungbo watched proceedings from the bench.
As for the Seagulls, Ayo Tanimowo went the distance - his tenth appearance in the division this season.
Azeez gave the home team the lead inside six minutes as he found the top corner from the edge of the box, it was his first goal at U23 level for Arsenal.
Balogun made it 2-0 when he slotted into the bottom corner after dribbling through the Brighton defence four minutes later and increased the lead on the stroke of half-time, assisted by Azeez.
Nikolaj Moller got in on the act four minutes from time, firing into an empty net after the ball was put on a plate for him by Akinola.
There was still time for Balogun to complete his hat-trick and it came in stoppage time.
