Osayi-Samuel lands in Portugal ahead of possible Nigeria debut, 16 players now in camp
Published: November 14, 2022
Fenerbahce wingback Bright Osayi-Samuel has landed in Portugal to link up with the Super Eagles ahead of Thursday's friendly against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal.
More than six years after the former Blackpool man expressed his desire to play for the Nigeria national teams, he is now in contention to make his debut for the three-time African champions following his inclusion in the squad list for the friendly against the World Cup-bound European nation.
Osayi-Samuel was probably an outsider to be named in the 23-man squad but climbed up the pecking order among the fullbacks as a result of the injuries suffered by Ola Aina and Zaidu Sanusi.
Introducing himself to Super Eagles fans, Osayi-Samuel told NFF TV : "Hi guys, it's Bright Osayi-Samuel. I play for Fenerbahce and I'm happy to be here."
Fresh from helping Brentford claim a shock 2-1 win over defending champions Manchester City in the Premier League at the weekend, Frank Onyeka has reported for Nigeria duty,
Terem Moffi, who has been playing really well this season, has also joined the Super Eagles in Portugal, along with Empoli fullback Tyronne Ebuehi and Hajduk Split's Chidozie Awaziem, who is returning to familiar territory having worn the colours of Primeira Liga clubs Porto and Boavista in the past.
16 players in camp : Troost-Ekong, Iwobi, Onyemaechi, Akpoguma, Etebo, Duru, Dennis, Onuachu, Lookman, Bassey, Aribo, Ebuehi, Onyeka, Moffi, Awaziem, Osayi-Samuel
