Genk coach hints at super-sub role for Super Eagles striker Arokodare against Club Brugge
Published: July 26, 2025
Racing Genk manager Thorsten Fink has confirmed that Super Eagles attacker Tolu Arokodare will begin the new season as a substitute, with newly-signed Hyeon-gyu Oh preferred as the starting centre-forward.
Speaking ahead of Genk’s opening match against Club Brugge, Fink revealed that Arokodare will play a key role from the bench while Oh leads the line.
"We’ve given [Oh] the confidence to start the season as our first striker. He’s earned it," Fink said to Het Belang van Limburg.
"But that doesn’t mean we can’t use Tolu. Fortunately, he’s handling it very well."
Arokodare, who led the Belgian Pro League scoring charts in 2024/25 with 21 goals and added six assists in 40 appearances, has been linked with top European clubs, including AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Fulham.
Despite speculation about a potential summer transfer, Fink emphasized Arokodare’s value to the squad, noting his ability to impact games as a ‘super-sub’ while his replacement, Aaron Bibout, adapts to the team’s system.
The 24-year-old’s physical presence, goal-scoring prowess, and improved defensive contributions have earned him praise, with Fink previously calling him a ‘top striker’ who excels in aerial duels and playmaking.
Fink also acknowledged that Bibout still needs time to integrate, making Arokodare the immediate backup option if Oh struggles or needs replacing during matches.
With Genk aiming for a serious title push, Fink appears to be building a squad with depth and flexibility.
Arokodare may not start the campaign on the pitch, but his influence remains vital as the season unfolds.
