'We need to be aggressive' - Boavista star urges Super Eagles teammates pre-Portugal
Published: November 16, 2022
Versatile Boavista defender Bruno Onyemaechi is in contention to make his international debut for Nigeria in Thursday evening's glamour friendly against Portugal.
Onyemaechi is familiar with Portuguese football as he has been in the European nation for four years, first representing
Feirense before joining Boavista on a season-long loan in the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old, who can play as a left-back and central defender, has profited from injuries to Porto's Zaidu Sanusi, Torino's Ola Aina and Cardiff City's Jamilu Collins by receiving his maiden call up to the Super Eagles.
Onyemaechi has said that the Super Eagles need to be aggressive if they are to get something from the game against Portugal.
Speaking to NFF TV on his maiden call up and expectation for the game, Onyemaechi said : "I have to say thank you to God because it's an honour to represent Nigeria, this is a big country., it's not easy to be one of the invited players. I want to say I am very blessed and honored.
"It's going to be a difficult game. For my game I need to stay calm and when I have the ball try to find my teammate.
"We need to be aggressive with and without the ball because the team we are playing is a very good opponent.
"The team we are going to play is not an easy team but we are going to do our best and hopefully get a win."
Fenerbahce wingback Bright Osayi-Samuel, Hapoel Jerusalem goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye and Rivers United defender Ebube Duru are the other players in contention to play their first game for the three-time African champions tomorrow evening.
