'He'll be in the group' - West Brom manager confirms Ajayi in contention to face Coventry City
Published: December 21, 2022
Nigeria national teamer Semi Ajayi is in contention to return to West Brom's matchday squad when they tackle Coventry City in the club's final game before Christmas.
Ajayi has not played competitively for the Baggies since he went off injured at Wigan Athletic on August 30.
It was thought his injury problems were over as he returned to full training just before the World Cup break and traveled with the squad for a mid-season training camp in Spain.
The former Arsenal U21 skipper played the entirety of the second half in the friendly against Elche, only to suffer a shoulder injury in training before the Championship restart.
The ailment saw him miss back-to-back matches against Sunderland and Rotherham United but there's now light at the end of the tunnel for the Super Eagles central defender.
In quotes relayed by Birmingham Live, West Brom manager Carlos Corberán stated : "We have the same group, plus the players who haven't been involved [Jake Livermore, Adam Reach] and we will make a decision, they're available.
"Plus Ajayi, he will be in the group because he's recovered well from the injury. "
The 29-year-old has missed seventeen matches played by West Brom so far this season and was used in seven games, all of which he started.
