Opinion : Arsenal should make a move for Super Eagles star as alternative to Mudryk, Felix
Published: January 06, 2023English Premier League leaders Arsenal are stepping up their efforts to sign a forward in the January transfer window.
The Gunners are without inspirational striker Gabriel Jesus who copped a knee injury at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and has been ruled out for some months.
With injuries to key players especially in the forward positions, the title dreams of the north Londoners may not materialize despite their promising run if more bodies are not brought in.
Manager Mikel Arteta and Sporting Director, Edu, are in the hunt for two technically brilliant players in João Félix from Atletico Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk's Mykhailo Mudryk.
Mudryk seems to be the one Arsenal are most keen about but London rivals, Chelsea, have entered the race.
Funds for Arsenal to pursue good players many not be so much a problem at N7 anymore but the winter window has proven to be tricky in player acquisition.
To this end, rather than being held to ransom by the likes of Shakhtar Donetsk and Atletico Madrid who want a premium for their players, they could sign quality players whose prices may not be too high to match.
Arsenal may have to chase only one of them at best or sign a Nigerian on temporary basis until the summer.
This is where Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi comes in.
Lorient's Moffi is in red-hot form and has scored 10 Ligue 1 goals in 16 games.
Moffi is just behind Paris Saint-Germain superstars Kylian Mbappe (13) and Neymar (11) in the race for the Golden Boot in the division.
Moffi can do a decent job for Arsenal on loan albeit going with just one, and not two forwards, could pose a huge risk going by the injury record of the team.
This is because Reiss Nelson is also another forward who is currently injured thereby reducing the depth of the team.
