Revelations Cup Nigeria 1 Costa Rica 0 : Okoronkwo delivers for Super Falcons
Published: February 22, 2023Nigeria's Super Falcons in the early hours of Wednesday morning defeated Costa Rica 1-0 to salvage some pride in their last game of the inaugural Revelations Cup.
The nine-time African champions had lost their two previous games against hosts, Mexico, and Colombia 1-0 respectively.
The loss to the Colombians marked the seventh successive defeat of the team coached by Randy Waldrum.
However in their last game at the Leon Stadium, Esther Okoronkwo's brilliant goal was all the team needed to put some respectability to their participation.
Okoronkwo received the ball from a weighted cross into the penalty box from Onyinye Echegini and let fly a left-footed shot that saw the ball nestle into the top left corner in the 45th minute.
The Super Falcons were without Barcelona striker Asisat Oshoala at the iRevelations Cup in Mexico.
