'We will fight for the win' - Young Pharaohs defender insists Egypt not scared of Flying Eagles
Published: February 22, 2023
Arab Contractors defender Omar Fayed has insisted that The Young Pharaohs are not going to be scared of facing the Flying Eagles in their second Group A match of the 2023 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
The hosts will do battle with the seven-time African champions at the Cairo International Stadium on Wednesday evening, with both teams targeting their first wins in the competition after disappointing results in their opening games.
While Egypt played out a goalless draw with Mozambique, Nigeria failed to live up to their pre-tournament hype, losing 1-0 to West African rivals Senegal.
Fayed pointed out that Egypt were unlucky in their opening match and stressed that they are hoping to pick up their first win in today's encounter against the Flying Eagles.
"We respect all the teams, but we are not afraid to play against any team. Our goal is to get the three points and we will fight for the win," Fayed said at the pre-match press conference.
The top two teams in each group will qualify for the quarterfinals of the AFCON, in addition to the best third-placed finishers.
The Egyptian U20 national team were African champions in 1981, 1991, 2003 and 2013.
