U17 AFCON Nigeria v Burkina Faso: Match preview, what to expect, confirmed team news, kickoff time

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria will square up against the Young Etalons of Burkina Faso in one of the quarterfinal games of the Africa U17 Cup of Nations on Thursday evening. 

 

Nigeria finished second in Group A with 6 points level with table toppers, Morocco while Burkina Faso also finished second in Group C with 3 points to advance to this stage.

This encounter is a rematch of the WAFU-UFOA Zone B qualifiers final where Nigeria got the better of Burkina Faso 2-1 in June 2022.


Nigeria head into the game as favourites having beaten Burkina Faso before this tournament and because of their pedigree in the competition.


It is a make or mar clash for both teams as a win guarantees a World Cup ticket and a chance to further their pursuit of winning the U17 AFCON.

As for Burkina Faso, the Confederation of African Football has ruled out striker Ousmane Camara from the quarterfinal encounter due to accumulation of bookings. 

Camara was yellow carded against Mali and was issued his second yellow card of the tournament against Cameroon, triggering a one-game suspension.

The match between the Golden Eaglets and the Young Etalons will take place at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers, Algeria.


The match is expected to kick off at 2000 hours Nigerian time.
