La Liga club Rayo Vallecano are working on a deal to sign versatile Spanish-Nigerian-South Korean winger Marvin Akinlabi.
Akinlabi entered into the history books as the first Nigeria-eligible footballer to play competitively for Real Madrid’s first team when he made his La Liga debut against Real Sociedad on September 20, 2020.
The 23-year-old is now back at Los Blancos after a season-long loan spell at LaLiga 2 club UD Las Palmas.
According to the online edition of Spanish sports daily Diario AS, Rayo Vallecano have identified Akinlabi or SD Eibar fullback Álvaro Tejero as their priority options to reinforce the right-back position.
Rayo Vallecano want to sign at least one of the players following the departure of Mario Hernández and also to provide competition for Iván Balliu plus offer manager Francisco Rodriguez alternatives.
Akinlabi is seen as a player with enormous potential and impressed whilst on loan at Las Palmas last season, making twenty four appearances for the Canary Islands-based club, scoring one goal and providing an assist.
The 2020 UEFA Youth League winner with Real Madrid's U19 team offers versatility in a variety of positions as he is capable of playing as a winger, right-back, right midfielder and right wingback.
Akinlabi has been with Real Madrid since July 1, 2016 after spells with the youth teams of Sporting Ciutat de Palma, Tranmere Rovers, SD La Salle and Es Jonquet Penya Arrabal.
