Four Super Eagles-eligible players get pre-season game time as Arsenal held by Watford

Four Super Eagles-eligible players were on parade at London Colney on Saturday as Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by Championship outfit Watford in a a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo played only the first half for the Londoners, while history-making attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, fresh from signing a new contract, entered the game as a substitute at halftime.

As for the Golden Boys, former Nigeria U23 international Tom Dele-Bashiru and Super Eagles winger Samuel Kalu were introduced in the 46th and 55th minute respectively.

The two Hornets players saw their game time limited last season due to injuries, with the Manchester City academy product playing only six matches and the former Bordeaux star logging nine games.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was omitted from the Watford squad for the second game in a row, having missed the goalless draw at  National League outfit Boreham Wood.

Okonkwo saved a shot from a Watford player three minutes before halftime but Ismael Kone was on hand to slot home the rebound for 1-0.

Ten minutes into the second half, Arsenal got their equalizer through Brazilian winger Marquinhos who tapped home after Amario Cozier-Duberry's shot was pushed into his path.

Watford continue their preparations for the new season with a friendly against Crystal Palace while the Gunners are heading to Germany next week to face 2.Bundesliga side FC Nürnberg.
