Arsenal working behind the scenes to try and get Super Eagles-eligible player a move
Published: August 23, 2023
Arsenal are working on securing a move for Super Eagles-eligible player Arthur Okonkwo before the end of the transfer window.
According to TEAMtalk, the 13-time English champions are working behind the scenes to ensure the goalkeeper leaves on a permanent or loan deal but the club will want him to move permanently.
Okonkwo is down the pecking order in the Gunners' goalkeeping ranks with Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya all ahead of him.
Despite his impressive loan spell with Sturm Graz last season, there is no indication that he is in the plans of Mikel Arteta and that explains why the club prefers a permanent move for him.
The Gunners' stance to move him on this summer is also because he is running into the final 12 months of his contract.
While there is interest from a host of clubs in Europe, there has been no progress made with any of the interested clubs.
At this stage, a move to the lower English divisions or abroad is more likely for the Anglo-Nigerian goalkeeper than the Premier League due to playing time.
