Madueke scores his first goal at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea win London derby
Published: August 30, 2023
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino handed Lesley Ugochukwu and Noni Madueke their first starts of the season in their 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
James Tilley gave AFC Wimbledon the lead from the penalty spot in the 19th minute after a foul was committed by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez.
The Blues also got a penalty of their own on the stroke of half-time after Madueke was adjudged to have been fouled
The 21-year-old then stepped up to convert the penalty and register his first-ever goal for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Fernández gave the home side the lead in the 72nd minute from a right-footed shot which he took outside the box.
Madueke was replaced by Moises Caicedo in the 81st minute and tonight's appearance is the second he has made for the Blues this season.
Unlike the England youth International, Ugochukwu lasted for the entire duration of the game and tonight's encounter makes it his third appearance for Chelsea but his first-ever start for the club.
