Done deals: Arsenal loan out two Nigerian goalkeeping brothers
Published: September 01, 2023Two talented goalkeepers of Nigerian descent Arthur Okonkwo and his brother Brian Okonkwo have left Arsenal on a temporary basis.
Through a statement on their official website, the north London club have announced the exit of Arthur to Football League newcomers Wrexham.
The 21-year-old has struggled to get into the Arsenal first team and has had to depart the club on loan deals to get game time and garner experience.
He went out on loan twice last season, the first being with Crewe Alexandra and the other with Sturm Graz.
The Super Eagles-eligible goalkeeper has been signed by Wrexham to fill the void left by Ben Foster who is now retired and will have to contend with Mark Howard and Luke McNicholas for the first-choice goalkeeping position for the League Two side.
The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
In a separate statement, Arsenal have also confirmed the departure of Brian Okonkwo.
The 17-year-old has joined Isthmian South Central side, Leatherhead on a work experience loan deal until January 2024.
The Flying Eagles-eligible goalkeeper will continue training with the Gunners' but will join the non-league side on their match days.
The deal is also subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
