Aina insists he was not at his best against Chelsea despite match-winning tackle to deny Sterling
Published: September 03, 2023
Cobham product Ola Aina took to social media to react to Nottingham Forest's 1-0 win over Chelsea in a Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
On his return to SW6, the Nigeria international gave a good account of himself and the highlight of his performance was his brilliant last-ditch tackle to deny Raheem Sterling from breaking the deadlock in the first half.
It proved to be a match-winning tackle as Nottingham Forest scored through Anthony Elanga and were able to hold on to their slender lead for their second win of the season and their first at Stamford Bridge since January 1995.
Three minutes after halftime, the Sweden international got his first Nottingham Forest goal after a superb pass from Taiwo Awoniyi.
Aina was on the books of Chelsea for twelve years, rising through the youth team ranks to make his professional debut in a 3-2 win over Bristol Rovers in the League Cup in August 2016, and made a further five appearances in all competitions before leaving Stamford Bridge for good in the summer of 2019.
Writing on Instagram, Aina stated: "Big win today, not my best outing but nevertheless +3. Always nice to be back at the bridge. @anthonyelanga that G pack ?"
Overall, Aina has been impressive in his first three starts as a Nottingham Forest player but on the flip side, he's walking a disciplinary tightrope as he is two yellow cards away from an automatic one-match suspension.
