Nwaneri battles back-to-back England Men's POTY Saka, 3 others for Arsenal Goal of the Month
Published: September 06, 2023
English Premier League side Arsenal have compiled a shortlist of the six best goals across the club during the opening month of the 2023-2024 season, with Golden Eaglets-eligible attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri making the cut.
Nwaneri scored his first competitive hat-trick for Arsenal's youth teams as the development squad thrashed Leicester City 4-1 and his second strike against the Foxes is up for the club's Goal of the Moth award for August 2023.
The other contenders for August's prize are Bukayo Saka who was recently crowned England Men’s Player of the Year for a second successive year, Eddie Nketiah who has been double nominated, James Sweet and U18 midfielder Louie Copley.
Nwaneri's brilliant left-footed finish from inside the box in a Premier League 2 meeting on August 18 is in the running for the Goal of the Month.
He tapped home just before the hour mark, assisted by Myles Lewis-Skelly, to give Arsenal the lead for the first time in the game.
The England U17 international of Nigerian descent has started the season on fire, either scoring or providing an assist in every single game he has played in with the exception of the 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.
Last season, he was nominated for Arsenal's Goal of the Month for November, December, February and April but missed out on the awards.
