FCK loanee Mukairu nets brace on his full debut as Reading record biggest victory in 122 years
Published: September 20, 2023
FC Copenhagen loanee Paul Mukairu bagged a brace on his full debut as Reading began their EFL Trophy campaign with an extraordinary 9-0 win over Exeter City on Tuesday evening at St James Park in Devon - the Royals' biggest win in 122 years.
Last month, Mukairu reunited with manager Rubén Sellés, who was his assistant coach at FC Copenhagen when he joined the Danish giants in January 2022.
Since his loan move, the winger has appeared in three matches in the League One as a substitute.
Mukairu was named in the starting lineup against the Grecians and repaid the manager's faith with a six-minute brace in the second half.
Tom McIntyre and a Zak Jules own goal saw Reading establish a two-goal lead heading into the break.
Ten minutes into the second half, Mukariu celebrated his first goal in Reading colours after planting the ball into the top right corner off an assist by Caylan Vickers.
On the hour mark, Mukairu made it 4-0 with another lovely finish after he was teed up by Ben Elliott.
Reading's other scorers in the second half were Dom Ballard (2), Ben Elliott, Caylan Vickers and Taylan Harris.
