'Was there any real difference between Bair this afternoon and Dessers?' - Motherwell hero slams Rangers striker
Published: September 25, 2023
Motherwell legend Stephen Craigan has not been impressed with the performances of Cyriel Dessers for Rangers despite opening his Scottish Premiership goalscoring account in the Light Blues' 1-0 victory over Motherwell on Sunday afternoon.
Dessers has come under huge criticism since his arrival at Ibrox in the summer after failing to find the net in the opening five games in the Premiership.
Rangers manager, Michael Beale had to drop him for the trip to St. Johnstone before recalling him to the starting XI yesterday with Danilo absent due to injury.
Speaking after the Scottish giants defeated Motherwell yesterday, Craigan expressed his dissatisfaction with the performances of the Super Eagles forward.
"Rangers can't bring in a centre forward who is going to guarantee them 20 league goals. I mean, was there any real difference between Theo Bair this afternoon and Cyriel Dessers, barring the goal?" Craigan was quoted as saying by Daily Record.
"Not really. I mean, if they switched sides, would you say he stands out more than him? No you wouldn't have.
"That's the kind of budget and if Rangers can't get it when they are spending £3m, Motherwell can't get it when they are taking someone on a free from St Johnstone."
Dessers will be hoping to retain his spot in Beale's starting XI when Rangers host Livingston at the Ibrox Stadium on Wednesday in the quarter-final of the Scottish League Cup.
The 28-year-old has made 11 appearances for the 55-time Scottish champions and has mustered 6 goal contributions.
