Super Eagles roster update: Nigerian Federation call in replacements for injured Nottingham Forest duo
Published: October 08, 2023
The Nigeria Football Federation have called in replacements for Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina after the Nottingham Forest duo suffered injuries while on club duties.
Empoli right-back Tyronne Ebuehi and Real Sociedad striker Umar Sadiq have replaced Awoniyi and Aina respectively in the Super Eagles squad ahead of back-to-back friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.
Awoniyi picked up a groin injury ahead of Nottingham Forest's week eight fixture in the Premier League against Crystal Palace while Aina has missed Forest's last two games due to a muscle-related injury.
This will be Ebuehi's third invitation by José Peseiro as he was called up for Nigeria's friendly against Portugal and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe last month.
He came on as a second-half substitute in the encounter against São Tomé and Príncipe which was his first appearance for the Super Eagles since January 2022.
The 27-year-old has featured in 7 games for Empoli across all competitions this season.
For Sadiq, he has not been called up by Peseiro since the AFCON qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe in June 2022.
The 26-year-old spent most of last season on the sidelines and has started just two games for Real Sociedad in the La Liga this term.
