'Mo is a personal favorite of mine'- Emenalo reveals Liverpool winger is a target for Saudi PL
Published: October 12, 2023
Director of Football of the Saudi Pro League, Michael Emenalo has spoken about the possibility of Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah moving to Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Pro League attracted several top African players in the summer transfer window including Edouard Mendy, Riyad Mahrez, Franck Kessie, Kalidou Koulibaly and Sadio Mane, but missed out on a deal to sign two-time African Footballer of the Year, Mohamed Salah.
The fact that Salah extended his Liverpool contract to 2025 did not prevent Al-Ittihad from attempting to sign him and offered him a record contract but Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp did not want to lose his talisman so the move was blocked.
Ahead of the reopening of the transfer window, Saudi Arabia continue to court the Egypt international, who has mustered 144 goals in 239 appearances in the English Premier League.
"Mo is welcome at any time, but no one is pressured or forced to come," Emenalo told Philipp Kessler via Evening Standard.
"If anyone wants to come here and there is an opportunity to work with the transferring club in a very respectful and professional manner, we would be very happy to have them.
"But Mo is a personal favorite of mine."
Nigerian forwards Odion Ighalo (Al Wehda), Anthony Nwakaeme (Al Fayha), Henry Onyekuru (Al Fayha) and Saviour Godwin (Al Akhdoud) are on the books of Saudi Pro League clubs.
