Former Germany youth teamer reacts to making his debut for Super Eagles against Mozambique
Published: October 17, 2023Former Germany youth teamer Jordan Torunarigha has taken to social media to react to making his debut for the Nigerian national team in a friendly against Mozambique on Monday evening.
The KAA Gent central defender can only represent the Super Eagles at international level after Fifa approved his change of association request.
Born in Germany, Torunarigha was named in the matchday squads for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe and last week's friendly with Saudi Arabia, but remained rooted to the bench on both occasions.
Wearing the number 5 at the back of his jersey, Torunarigha was handed his full debut by manager Jose Peseiro against the Mambas and was on parade at the Estádio Municipal de Albufeira for 75 minutes before making way for another European Union-born player in Calvin Bassey.
Before hs first senior cap, the former Hertha Berlin star played internationally for Germany's U16, U18, U19, U20, U21 and Olympic national teams, racking up 30 appearances.
Writing on Instagram, Torunarigha said: "Really proud and happy about my debut for the Super Eagles!. Just the beginning!".
With his debut for the Super Eagles, Torunarigha followed in the footsteps of Leon Balogun and Kevin Akpoguma who were born in Germany and have played for Nigeria.
