'Incredibly strong' - Bundesliga's record substitute goalscorer hails Boniface but tips Kane to win Golden Boot
Published: October 20, 2023Bundesliga's record substitute goalscorer Nils Petersen has hailed red-hot Nigerian striker Victor Boniface for his impressive start to life in the German topflight.
The 22-year-old has scored in all but 3 games so far, mustering seven goals in seven league games.
Only VfB Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy and Bayern Munich ace Harry Kane have scored more goals than the Bayer Leverkusen forward in the Bundesliga this season.
Boniface's 9 goal contributions are the most by any player for Bayer Leverkusen in this campaign, thereby playing a vital role in Xabi Alonso's side being the best team in the German top flight heading into the week 8 round of games.
Petersen who holds the record for most goals scored by a substitute with 34 goals has heaped praise on the former Royale Union Saint Gilloise forward.
"He's incredibly strong with him how he evades the closest guard," he told Kicker via Weser-Kurier
However, despite the Nigerian striker's impressive goal return, the former German international believes Bayern Munich forward Kane will win the Golden Boot.
"I think he can score 30 goals or more. If he had played a little more selfishly, there would have been more goals in his account. But he accepts Bayern's current game. The 5-0 win against Freiburg is emblematic.
"Kane didn't score a goal, but he still left his mark on the game because he creates space and prepares situations, "
The Tottenham Hotspur icon has 8 goals, five fewer than top scorer Guirassy.
