Ex-Arsenal striker blames Bassey for Spurs two goals as left-footed player is badly exposed at right CB

Former Arsenal forward Alan Smith has pointed the finger at Calvin Bassey for the two goals conceded by Fulham in their defeat to table-toppers Tottenham Hotspur in the final fixture for matchday 9 in the Premier League.
Marco Silva handed the Nigeria international his first Premier League start since August when he featured for Fulham in their 2-2 draw with Arsenal, a game which also saw him get red-carded.
The left-footed Bassey failed to prove that he deserves a place in the starting lineup as he was badly exposed playing as a right-sided centre-back.
It was his misplaced pass that led to Tottenham's first goal and was also at fault for the second goal in what was a terrible performance from the 23-year-old.
Smith revealed that Bassey was at fault for the two goals scored by Tottenham in the encounter.
"James Maddison has been superb out there, and that goal will mean a lot in front of his new supporters. Spurs fans have a new hero!" Smith said on Sky Sports via BBC Sport.
"Bassey once again giving the ball away, and he is then at fault for playing Son onside later in the move too. You can give the ball away and it is rare that on both occasions those mistakes lead to goals."
The Italian-born defender has now made six appearances for Fulham since the start of the campaign and will need some convincing to do if he is to start the next league game against Brighton & Hove.
