Arsenal alum Nathan Tella named in Super Eagles expanded squad for WCQ; Nigerian passport sorted
Published: November 04, 2023Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that Arsenal academy product Nathan Tella has been named in the Super Eagles' expanded squad for their 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe respectively.
The Super Eagles' attacking department looks depleted heading into the first two qualification games as Victor Osimhen looks set to miss out while there are questions surrounding the fitness of Samuel Chukwueze and Taiwo Awoniyi.
Tella has previously expressed his interest in representing the 2013 AFCON winners and it is confirmed that he has his Nigerian passport sorted out ahead of a possible trip to Uyo in Akwa Ibom State.
The Bayer Leverkusen ace is also eligible to represent England but the litany of options available to Gareth Southgate will make it difficult for him to play for the 1996 world champions.
Tella's addition to the Super Eagles squad will be a good addition having impressed in his loan spell with Burnley in the English Championship last season, registering 22 goal involvements.
The 24-year-old is a versatile player who can play anywhere across the attack and can also do a job in midfield.
Hale End product Tella was on the books of Arsenal for a decade before joining Southampton in 2017, from where he moved to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window.
