'I've heard' - Crystal Palace legend Clinton Morrison claims a lot of clubs are watching Awoniyi
Published: November 05, 2023
Crystal Palace legend and former Republic of Ireland international Clinton Morrison has claimed that a lot of clubs are tracking Taiwo Awoniyi on the back of his impressive displays for Nottingham Forest.
Since landing at the City Ground from German Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin in the summer of 2022, the Nigeria international has mustered 17 goal involvements in 39 outings for the two-time European champions.
Morrison has predicted that Awoniyi could make a move to a more glamorous club if he keeps his good form.
The 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup winner has slowed down in recent weeks, largely due to fitness issues, but started the 2023-2024 season on fire, either scoring or assisting in each of his first five games in the Premier League.
Awoniyi was sensationally linked with a move to Premier League giants Chelsea in the summer transfer window but those reports have since been quashed by transfer market experts.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live ahead of the Nottingham Forest versus Aston Villa Premier League encounter, Morrison said: "They've got a lot of good attacking options but I do like Taiwo Awoniyi, he's an outstanding player and do you know what I like?
"A lot of clubs are watching him at the moment I've heard. He's good with his back to goal, he can run in behind.
"I used to question his finishing - now when he's getting in there, he's getting opportunities."
Awoniyi's contract with Nottingham Forest runs out on June 30, 2027.
