Raphael Onyedika reveals what the Super Eagles stars are talking about in anticipation of WCQ v Lesotho
Published: November 15, 2023
Club Brugge star Raphael Onyedika has said that Thursday's World Cup qualifying match between Nigeria and Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo is a must-win game for the Super Eagles.
The central midfielder emphasized the importance of the Super Eagles beginning their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with three points.
Since the appointment of Jose Peseiro as manager of the national team, the Super Eagles have struggled to win games at home.
They narrowly defeated Sierra Leone 2-1 and then lost 1-0 to Guinea Bissau before a 6-0 win over already-eliminated São Tomé and Príncipe in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Nigeria lost out on a place in the 2022 World Cup to the Black Stars of Ghana on the away goal rule after a scoreless first leg tie in Kumasi and 1-1 draw in Abuja.
Speaking after Tuesday's first training session on grass, Onyedika said: "It was nice, it was good to be back, train and prepare for the coming game so we need to get ready for that."
When asked to reveal what the Super Eagles players have been talking about in anticipation of the game against the Crocodiles, Onyedika answered: "It's a must win game, we have to put all our efforts to win the game because we know our fans and everyone is counting on us, so we need to put all our efforts and get the three points."
After two appearances off the bench, FC Ebedei product Onyedika made his full Super Eagles debut on October 16 when he started their 3-2 win over Mozambique in an international friendly.
