Agreement in principle for Chelsea target Osimhen to extend Napoli contract; release clause could be N113.5b
Published: December 13, 2023
Napoli have reached an agreement in principle with Chelsea-linked striker Victor Osimhen over extending his contract with the club with an official announcement expected to follow soon.
This was revealed by Fabrizio Romano on his X timeline on Wednesday night with the report adding that the new deal will be valid until June 2026.
The new deal will also include a release clause which according to Sky Sports will be around 130 million euros (approximately N113.5 billion in Nigerian currency)
This also follows a report from Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio who reported on his website earlier today that a meeting took place between Napoli President Aurelio de Laurentiis, one of the club's board members, Andrea Chiavelli and Osimhen's agent Roberto Calenda.
The new development brings to an end the uncertainty surrounding the Super Eagles forward 's future with the Serie A defending champions.
The 24-year-old helped the Naples-based side to their first league title in 33 years last season and it is not a surprise De Laurentiis has been desperate to convince him to sign a new contract.
While Napoli look unlikely to defend their crown at the moment, they will need Osimhen to replicate his last season's form to help them qualify for next season's Champions League and make it to the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League and the Copa Italia.
