'A modern-day full-back' - Ex-Scotland right-back delighted Tottenham tied Udogie to a new deal
Published: December 14, 2023
Former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton has expressed his satisfaction with the performances of Destiny Udogie and is excited about him being given a new deal.
Earlier this week, Spurs confirmed that the fullback has signed a long-term deal, extending his stay to the club till 2030 and also receiving a pay rise in the process.
The 21-year-old has been part of the new-look Tottenham side who have won people over with their exciting style of play which is being orchestrated by Ange Postecoglou.
He has started all Premier League games has been available for selection and has three-goal involvement in 14 appearances.
Udogie excelled as a left wing-back for Udinese last term but is playing as a full-back this season and has performed excellently in that role.
Hutton has expressed his satisfaction with the performances of the Italy-born defender and is thrilled with Spurs tying him down with a new contract.
Udogie's worked out as a brilliant signing," Hutton told Tottenham News.
"I know he was signed and went back out on loan but he's back now and he's ready.
"He's matured, he's physical, he's strong, he ticks all the boxes and literally, he can play in that midfield role comfortably. He's only 21 – that's incredible.
"I think his original contract was five years and his start to the season has been quite incredible.
"Tottenham have struggled with the left-back position for a while so for him to come in, knowing he's tied down until 2030, if he continues to progress the way he's going, who knows where he'd go.
"He looks like he's got everything you need for a modern-day full-back."
Postecoglou considers the Hellas Verona product a vital member of his team and must have played a role in convincing him to commit his long-term future to the club.
Udogie ended his long run without recording a goal contribution last weekend in Tottenham's emphatic win over Aston Villa and will be hoping to add to his tally in the coming weeks.
