'I'll always be there for them' - Dessers speaks on Rangers signing of Wolves striker Fabio Silva
Published: December 29, 2023
Scottish Premiership giants Rangers have confirmed the signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers centre forward Fabio Silva on a loan deal until the remainder of the 2023-2024 season.
The transfer of the Portugal U21 star will be completed on January 1, 2024 when the transfer window reopens for business, subject to international clearance.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers-owned striker becomes the first player to join Rangers since the appointment of Philippe Clement as coach in October.
Silva's arrival at the Ibrox Stadium will increase the competition for places in the Rangers attack but Cyriel Dessers has remained positive, saying that he is focused on giving his best whenever he's called upon by Clement.
Dessers struggled for form in his first two months as a Rangers player following his summer move from Cremonese but the goals have started flowing of late with four in his last six games in the Scottish Premiership.
The 29-year-old has improved because Clement brought in a style of play that suits the Nigeria international.
Asked to share his thoughts on the loan signing of Silva, Dessers told reporters at the pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow's Old Firm derby: "You know a team like Rangers there will always be a lot of strikers or a lot of other players, with quality as well.
"I'm not really looking at it that way, I am just trying to provide for the team, whenever they need me I'll always be there for them, and try to stay positive and do my job."
Overall, Dessers has appeared in 28 matches across all competitions so far this season and has directly participated in fifteen goals (9 goals, 6 assists).
