Two in two: Super Eagles-eligible winger scores in back-to-back Chelsea games for the first time
Published: December 30, 2023
Super Eagles-eligible winger Noni Madueke was on the scoresheet as Chelsea defeated Luton Town 3-2 in a Premier League fixture played at Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon.
Cole Palmer opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he capitalized on a mistake by Issa Kaboré before firing the ball into the far corner.
Madueke would double the away side's lead in the 37th minute with a brilliant strike from his right foot having been assisted by Cole Palmer before the latter made it 3-0 in the 70th minute to record his second of the game.
It is the first time that he has scored in back-to-back games for Chelsea since his arrival at the cub, having also found the back of the net against Crystal Palace from the penalty spot on Wednesday.
The momentum of the game turned on its head when former Blues midfielder Ross Barkley pulled one back and an 87th-minute strike from Elijah Adebayo would make sure the game had a frantic end for Mauricio Pochettino's side.
Before being replaced by Enzo Fernández in the 81st minute, Madueke had 43 touches of the ball, completed 91% of his passes, made 3 key passes, and also contributed defensively having won 9 of the 14 ground duels he contested.
The 21-year-old will now be hoping he has done enough to keep his place in the team for the time being.
