Arsenal, Brentford join Chelsea, Leicester in race to sign Flying Eagles-eligible defender
Published: January 07, 2024
Two more English clubs have been linked with a move for Flying Eagles-eligible defender David Odogu.
According to German transfer market website Fussballtransfers making reference to Sky Germany, the 2023 Fifa U17 World Cup and European U17 Championship winner with Germany is wanted by London clubs Arsenal and Brentford.
Previously, it was reported that the VfL Wolfsburg wonderkid was on the wishlist of both Chelsea and Leicester City.
Odogu put himself in the shop window during the World Cup in Indonesia, where he started all but one of the seven matches played by the champions, starring in the centre of defence.
The German-Nigerian teenager is known for his physical strength, speed and tackling ability and has been compared to former Chelsea star Antonio Rüdiger, who now plays for Real Madrid.
Although Odogu is open to a transfer in the January transfer window, VfL Wolfsburg are planning to retain him until at least the end of the season.
The 17-year-old is currently on a youth team contract at Wolfsburg, which will be upgraded to a professional contract when he turns eighteen on June 3, 2024.
