Manchester United reignite interest in Barcelona's Super Falcons striker
Published: January 09, 2024
Women's Super League side Manchester United have reignited their interest in signing Barcelona's Super Falcons centre-forward Asisat Oshoala.
The former Arsenal and Liverpool striker was heavily courted by the Red Devils in the summer of 2021 but Barcelona fended off the interest and persuaded the six-time African Women's Footballer of the Year to sign a new contract.
According to TEAMtalk citing United's view Mina Ibrahim, the English side want to bolster their attacking department with the signing of the proven Nigerian striker this month.
They had hoped to sign Brazil international and North Carolina Courage star Kerolin Nicoli but an injury to her has changed their plans, thereby shifting their attention to Oshoala.
Manchester United sit seven points adrift of first-placed Chelsea in the Women's Super League at the moment and the signing of the Nigerian star could enhance their chances of closing the gap between them and the table toppers.
Oshoala has previously played in England, thus settling down might not be an issue for the world-class forward.
However, Manchester United will be faced with the hurdle of convincing Barcelona to sell her having been a pivotal player in the club.
Since joining the Spanish side in 2019, she has played 108 games in the Primera División Femenina and has 92 goals to her name.
