Newcastle and Tottenham among seven Premier League clubs interested in 2021 Super Eagles invitee
Published: January 17, 2024
It has been reported that Newcastle and Tottenham are in the running to sign 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise.
According to HITC, the two aforementioned clubs alongside Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea have approached the player's representatives about signing him.
Aston Villa are also said to be an admirer of the Super Eagles-eligible forward but are already exploring another alternative in Villarreal's Alex Baena.
The report also claimed that Olise would prefer to stay in London where he was born but he is not averse to the idea of moving elsewhere with PSG, Barcelona, and Atlético de Madrid also monitoring his situation.
The French youth international has a release clause that is said to be more than £50m which might indicate that the club with the best financial offer will grasp his signature.
Thus, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham and particularly Newcastle who are limited by Financial Fair Play regulations can go head to head with other English giants for the signing of Olise.
A move to Spurs would see the versatile forward compete with Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson for a starting role on the right flank of the attack while he will have Miguel Almirón to contend with if he joins the Magpies.
