Moses Simon back in service at Nantes as Mbappe comes to the rescue of Paris Saint-Germain
Published: February 18, 2024After approximately two months of unavailability due to his commitments with the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Moses Simon is back in service at Nantes, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Nigerian winger was a second half substitute as Nantes were beaten 2-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in a French Ligue 1 clash at Stade de la Beaujoire on Saturday night.
Simon started five of the seven matches played by Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations and scooped two Man of the Match awards in wins against Guinea-Bissau and Angola.
The big news ahead of kickoff was the decision of PSG manager Luis Enrique to omit Kylian Mbappe from the starting lineup amid speculation linking the striker with a departure to Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of the current season.
Although the first half ended goalless, Nantes made life difficult for the visitors who were without their talisman Mbappe.
With a powerful shot from distance, Lucas Hernandez managed to break the deadlock in the 60th minute and two minutes later Enrique brought on Mbappe along with Ousmane Dembélé, and Achraf Hakimi.
With sixteen minutes left on the clock, Moses Simon entered the game as a substitute for his 18th league appearance of the season.
Spaces began to appear with the introduction of Mbappe and it was the 2018 World Cup winner that made the game safe for the Parisians as he won and converted a penalty in the 78th minute to double the advantage.
