Arsenal lagging behind Man Utd, PSG in race for Nigeria attacker, claims 1998 World Cup winner
Published: March 06, 2024
1998 World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit believes that Arsenal are lagging behind Manchester United and PSG in the race to sign the current African Men's Player of the Year Victor Osimhen.
The North London club want to improve their attacking department with the signing of a new striker in the summer and that is why they are in the race to sign the Napoli star.
The impediment standing before Arsenal in their pursuit to sign the Nigerian striker is that they will have beat Manchester United and PSG to his services.
The Red Devils whose football operation is being handled by Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group have also been reported to be interested in grasping the signature of the lanky central forward.
PSG on the other hand want to make up for the loss of Kylian Mbappé who is the club's record top scorer with the signing of Osimhen and have been interested in him before now.
Speaking to Wett Freunde via TEAMtalk, Petit revealed that he believes that the Super Eagles forward won't join Arsenal and that Brighton forward Eve Ferguson will be a good signing for Mikel Arteta's side.
"Gabriel Jesus always gives his all, but he always lacks the coolness in front of goal. Perhaps a big-name new signing would somehow give him wings," he said.
"Evan Ferguson would prevail due to his effectiveness and coolness.
"I think Osimhen is more likely to move elsewhere, for example to Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester United, because they simply have more money."
The competition to sign Osimhen will be stiff and it will be interesting to see who wins his signature.
