Wolves boss admits he was disappointed 15yo Okoduwa did not make his PL debut against Arsenal

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil has admitted that he was disappointed teenage right-back Wesley Okoduwa was unable to make his Premier League debut during a 2-0 loss to Arsenal at the Molineux Stadium on Saturday evening.

The 15-year-old, son of retired Nigeria international striker Emmanuel Okoduwa, rose up the pecking order of defenders due to the rash of injuries that ravaged the squad prior to Arsenal's visit.

Wesley Okoduwa was spotted warming up on the sidelines during the first half against Arsenal but eventually did not come off the bench for what could have been a historic debut.

If he had played, he would have become the youngest player ever to represent Wolves in the Premier League at the age of 15 years and 344 days, and the second youngest player in Premier League history, behind Arsenal wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri who set the record on September 18, 2022 when he made his senior debut at Brentford.

When asked to comment on 15-year-old Wesley Okoduwa being named on the bench, Gary O’Neil told BBC Match of the Day: "I was disappointed he didn't get on but we were pushing hard.

"He's trained really well though so I'm sure we'll see him soon."

Apart from Okoduwa, another teenager of Nigerian descent, Temple Ojinnaka was an unused substitute against Arsenal.
