Tosin inherits Chelsea shirt number worn by former captains Gullit, Townsend, Venables, Ron Harris
Published: July 15, 2024
Through a statement on their official website, Premier League side Chelsea have released their updated squad numbers before heading to the United States to play pre-season games.
New signing, Tosin Adarabioyo will play with the number 4 on the back of his jersey, same number he wore on the back of his shirt in his last two seasons at Fulham.
Tosin wore number 24 at Manchester City, during loan spells at West Brom and Blackburn Rovers, and donned number 16 in his first two seasons at Craven Cottage.
The number 4 is seemingly his favorite shirt number, given that he played with the jersey number while representing Manchester City's U18, U19 and U21 sides.
Chelsea's number 4 shirt was vacant after Benoit Badiashile switched to number 5 before the start of the 2023-2024 season.
The number 4 is an iconic shirt at Chelsea as it has been sported by several former captains of the club, including Ruud Gullit, Andy Townsend, Terry Venables and Ron Harris.
Andreas Christensen, Cesc Fàbregas, David Luiz, Claude Makélélé, Juan Sebastián Verón, Jes Högh, Steve Clarke, Michael Duberry and Craig Burley have all worn number 4 at Chelsea.
Chelsea have stressed that the full list of squad numbers will be finalised later in the summer, meaning Tosin's current shirt number is provisional.
