Arsenal PL goalscorers at Tottenham: Kanu among four African players to find the net
Published: September 12, 2024
Ahead of Sunday's north London derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the official website of the Gunners has revealed that twenty-seven Gunners have found the net in away north London derbies during the Premier League era, with four African legends making the cut.
Nwankwo Kanu (Nigeria), Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo), Lauren (Cameroon) and Kolo Toure (Ivory Coast) endeared themselves to the Arsenal fans by finding the net on derby day.
During his five-year association with Arsenal, the two-time African Player of the Year played in four league games at Tottenham and scored in his first appearance against them, a 3-1 win at White Hart Lane on May 5, 1999.
With five minutes to go, Kanu scored one of his best goals in an Arsenal shirt as he flicked the ball over Luke Young and fired an unstoppable shot past Ian Walker.
Only French duo Robert Pires (5) and Patrick Vieira (4) have scored more goals than Togolese striker of Nigerian descent Adebayor (3) at Tottenham Hotspur.
Super Eagles central midfielder Alex Iwobi faced Tottenham twice in away games during his time at the Gunners without putting his name on the scoresheet, while fellow Hale End Academy graduate Chuba Akpom featured in one away game.
Nicolas Anelka, Dennis Bergkamp, Kai Havertz, Per Mertesacker, Martin Odegaard, Ray Parlour, Tomas Rosicky, Alexis Sanchez, Robin van Persie and Ian Wright have scored in away games at Tottenham.
Completing the list of scorers are Aaron Ramsey, Nicklas Bendtner, Cesc Fabregas, Thierry Henry, Alexandre Lacazette, Freddie Ljungberg, Samir Nasri, Mesut Ozil, Emmanuel Petit, Bukayo Saka and Theo Walcott.
