Trabzonspor president admits it was impossible to sign Osimhen; confirms interest in Gift Orban
Published: September 12, 2024
Trabzonspor President Ertuğrul Doğan has revealed that the club could not afford signing Victor Osimhen before the striker's loan move to Super Lig rivals Galatasaray and confirmed that they are interested in snapping up Gift Orban.
Trabzonspor relied heavily on Paul Onuachu for goals last season, having secured his services on loan from Southampton and have an interest in signing him permanently.
The Saints have placed a €15m valuation on the Super Eagles striker, but the Black Sea Storm are only ready to pay €8m to sign him and, as a result, have been unable to reach an agreement with their English counterparts.
Therefore, they are still in the market for a centre forward and were offered the chance to sign Osimhen who had been frozen out of the Napoli first team at the time.
Speaking with Tivibu Spor via Sabah Spor, Doğan revealed that Trabzonspor were priced out of a move for the reigning African Men's Player of the Year as they couldn't afford him
" Osimhen was also suggested to us but it is not possible for us to reach those figures. Our rivals are paying two players as much as our total squad. You will get it according to your money," Doğan explained.
The Black Sea Storm President also revealed that they have spoken with 2023 Super Eagles invitee Gift Orban over the possibility of joining the club.
"Gift Orban is a player we have talked to. If our coach has a request, we will work to fulfill it quickly."
Orban has been struggling with French giants Olympique Lyon since joining the club in January, as he has been unable to nail a starting berth.
He has made just one appearance in the Ligue 1 this season, coming off the bench to score a brace against Racing Strasbourg before the international break.
