Chelsea, Tottenham still interested in Lecce LB who is one game way from being cap-tied to Denmark
Published: October 21, 2024
Denmark international of Nigerian descent, Patrick Dorgu remains a player of interest to Premier League clubs Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, having previously been linked with the two London clubs in the summer transfer window.
Three days ago, Lecce announced that the dual-national teenager has signed a contract extension, keeping him at the Giallorossi until the end of the 2028-2029 season.
According to the Mirror UK, Chelsea and Tottenham are still chasing Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu - despite the player penning a new contract in Italy.
Tottenham had Dorgu on their transfer shortlist in the summer window and Chelsea also considered signing him in July but a deal did not materialize.
The €30-35 million price tag placed by Lecce for the young talent discouraged the London clubs, and discussions never reached an advanced stage.
Dorgu was on Tottenham's summer shortlist as a potential cover for another player of Nigerian descent Destiny Udogie, while Chelsea planned to sign the fullback and keep him at sister club Strasbourg.
The 19-year-old made his full debut for Denmark's senior national team in the most recent international against Switzerland, and in doing so, took his total caps to three for the Scandinavians.
The Copenhagen native is now one game away from being cap-tied to Denmark as he is an U21 player.
Patrick is eligible to represent the Super Eagles through his Nigerian parents Paul and Clara Dorgu.
He is looked after by Nigerian agent Maurice Ogbodo who is affiliated with Base Soccer, a top British agency with strong ties to several Premier League clubs.
